Hālau ʻŌlelo is a worldwide Hawaiian language network for personal and professional growth, training and development.
What is Hālau ʻŌlelo?
Our mission is to facilitate an international forum of Hawaiian language learning and sharing, connect and celebrate Hawaiian communities worldwide, and promote cross-cultural collaboration.
We are currently sharing Hawaiian language in New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, Arizona, California, Ohio and Texas. Our goal is to share in all U.S. states by the end of December 2017 and eventually share on every continent.

Kainoa Embernate, Founder and Director of Hālau ʻŌlelo: Hawaiian Language Worldwide and an educator of Hawaiian language and culture from Hilo, Hawaiʻi. He holds a Master of Arts in Indigenous Language and Culture Education, a post-baccalaureate certificate in Indigenous Teacher Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Hawaiian Studies from Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. After graduating, he lectured at his alma mater at undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, he taught pre-kindergarten through high school level students at the Hawaiian immersion laboratory school, Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu, in Keaʻau, Hawaiʻi.
Based in New York City, Kainoa is a source to cultural practitioners, culinarians, performing artists, writers, filmmakers and scholars looking to grow Hawaiian, Polynesian, and Oceanic presence in New York City and around the world.
All new members are strongly encouraged to enroll in a Chapter One class no matter the extent of their previous Hawaiian language learning and sharing. Hālau ʻŌlelo's methodology of language instruction offers a deeper sense of language intention, functionality and responsibility. Chapter One classes provide the scope, sequence and foundation of future learning and sharing with Hālau ʻŌlelo.
